Members of the Foundation for Historical Southeastern Colorado (FHSECO) are actively restoring Rocky Ford's 1877 Little White Schoolhouse.
Recent preservation and rehabilitation work on the historic structure includes painting and scraping, water-line installation, installation of a furnace and air conditioning, basement wall restoration, roofing, and chimney repair.
The roof restoration addressed several layers of old wood shake and asphalt shingles, including deteriorating and curling T-Lap shingles, which are now outlawed. Work involved stripping away layers of old roofing down to the roof framing and decking, inspecting and repairing attic framing, installing new roof decking and synthetic underlayment, and applying new architectural shingles complete with roof vents. Additionally, the historic crumbling brick chimney has been fully repaired and repointed.
