Las Animas is a small town located in the southeast corner of Colorado. It is the county seat of Bent County and has a population of around 2,500 people.

The town was founded in 1866 and named after the Santa Fe Trail, which passed through the area. Las Animas is Spanish for "the souls," and the town was named after the many travelers who lost their lives along the trail.

Today, Las Animas is a quiet, rural community with a rich history. It is located in the Arkansas River Valley, which provides a fertile environment for agriculture. The area is known for its production of wheat, corn, and hay.

One of the main attractions in Las Animas is the John W. Rawlings Heritage Museum, housed in a historic building that was once the Bent County Courthouse. The museum features exhibits on the history of the Santa Fe Trail and the history of Las Animas. Another popular attraction is Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, a reconstruction of a trading post built in the 1840s and a major stop along the Santa Fe Trail.

In addition to its historical attractions, Las Animas is home to a number of outdoor recreational opportunities along the Arkansas River and at nearby John Martin Reservoir State Park and Lathrop State Park. The town also hosts annual events including Santa Fe Trail Days, the Bent County Fair, and the Las Animas Rodeo.
